Resistant Bacterial Skin Disease in Dogs
There can be several reasons why a dog with pyoderma is not responding to antibiotics: there may be an underlying allergy or hormonal disease, the bacteria may be unusual or resistant to the antibiotic used, or the disease might only be mimicking a pyoderma (i.e. a sterile inflammatory disease. All of these possibilities will be discussed, as well as a brief review of the types of bacterial infections.
